How the free line check works
- Bring one night's receiptFood, a drink, a gift card and a tip, even if the file folded them into a single income account.
- Name the account each item hitsA meal, a liability, a fee, or tax a platform already remitted.
- Leave a locked month aloneA correction belongs in the month that is still open.
What one receipt can show
The check names which items share one income line and which account each item should hit. It will not invent a ticket the receipt does not contain.
Tip items can be named in the file. The paycheck stays with the payroll company the restaurant already uses. This cleanup does not press pay, and it does not sign an audit.
Steven Palmieri is a Tax CFO and the Entrepreneur's CFO. The practice is not a CPA firm and does not sign audit or assurance reports.

Why did the whole night become one number?
QuickBooks posted food, a drink, a gift card and a tip to one income account. A sales tax form and a drink form often need those items apart. The receipt is where that split starts.
When does a sold gift card become a meal?
When a guest redeems the card and the kitchen cooks. Until then the card is an amount the house still owes. Tax is figured on the redemption, not on the night the card was sold.
Why is a delivery deposit smaller than the tickets?
The platform kept a fee, and the notice may show tax already sent. Book gross food, that fee, and the tax the notice lists, then the deposit. Booking only the bank line hides the fee.
Will a filed month be reopened for one receipt?
No. A closing date keeps a filed month filed. A batch still open inside that lock is handled by an amendment or by a correction in a later month.
